I just finished watching the red carpet for the 2017 Academy Awards red carpet (my favorite part of any awards show!) and was blown away by the looks I saw tonight. Gowns, makeup, hair, and jewelry–almost all were complete perfection! It was difficult to select my top five best-dressed from the night, but these are the looks that made me go “wow” this evening, and the ones that I feel could become Oscars classics.
I honestly didn’t even recognize Hailee Steinfeld at first with he slicked-back ‘do, s t u n n i n g make up (I mean, WOW), and jaw-dropping gown. Hailee was a vision in an sheer white Ralph & Russo high-collar gown with floral appliques. This look is perfect in every possible way. The details of the dress are stunning; from the romantic appliques and flower bunches flowing down the back, to the pretty scallop details, this dress oozes elegance, youthfulness, and femininity.
Nicole Kidman stunned tonight in an embellished nude gown by Armani Privé and a bold lip and earrings. With her enviable physique and porcelain skin, I feel like Nicole Kidman could wear just about anything and look amazing, but this intricatly beaded, figure-hugging gown is a breath of fresh air in the sea of tulle this evening.
While not as glammed-up as the other looks on my list, Michelle William’s Louis Vuitton gown hit home to my own personal style. Simplicity is often the hardest to master, but the plunging black v-neck and cream-colored embellished skirt were a vision of understated, classic elegance.
The stunning Janelle Monáe never ceases to amaze me with her sartorial choices, and tonight was no different. I fell in love when I saw Janelle’s ornate gown by one of favorite gown designers, Elie Saab Haute Couture, adorned with beads, crystals, and sequins. The jeweled neckpiece and diamond-encrusted headband added even more glam to this extravagant ensemble. Janelle stared in Hidden Figures and Moonlight, both nominated for best picture this year.
Best Dressed: Emma Stone
While Hailee Steinfeld’s look was a close contender for my best dressed pick, Emma Stone completely stole the show in a flapper-inspired Givenchy Haute Couture gown. Her intricately embroidered dress was beaded with thousands of glittering Swarovski crystals and paired with classic Tiffany & Co. jewels. She completed her look with a classic red lip and vintage-inspired waves. This look is an “Oscars Look” through and through. From the show-stopping gold shimmering fringe of the dress to the hair, makeup, and jewelry, Emma Stone is classic Hollywood glamour incarnate, and just in time for her Best Actress nomination for the movie La La Land.
