As much as I hate them when I’m hitting the snooze button twenty times, mornings are my favorite time of the day. I’ve always been one to work on classwork, write posts for my blog, hang out with friends, or check social media way past midnight in order to “maximize my time”. But, I’ve found that when hitting the hay earlier and waking up earlier, I preform far better. I’m more productive and optimistic in the morning time and the promise of the day ahead gives me a huge boost of motivation. So, it’s important to me that I take the time to have a great morning and prepare myself for the day ahead.
Today, I’m going to share a few of the ways I make each morning its best when I first wake up, coming from a former night-owl.
Grab a Cup of Tea
While I love nothing more than a white chocolate latte in the morning, a cup of hot tea is the best way to start your day. Drinking tea has tons of health benefits. It has been shown to fight inflammation, reduce risk of stroke and heart disease, and boost brain health. My favorite has to be the Wild Orange Blossom blend from Teavana. It’s incredibly fragrant and the citrus helps wake up your senses.
Create a Morning Playlist
Music never fails to get me up and going in the morning. Personally, I prefer light, acoustic songs or jazz while I’m getting ready, but you could also play some more upbeat tunes to wake you up and get you ready to tackle the day. Here are some songs you can find on my morning playlist:
L-O-V-E – Nat King Cole
Why Georgia – John Mayer
Here Comes the Sun – The Beatles
Easy – The Commodores
Magic – Coldplay
Eat a Filling, Nutritious Breakfast
They’re not lying when they say breakfast is the most important meal of the day. You’ll need something that will keep you full and give you energy for the first half of the day. My favorite option for breakfast is a bowl of Greek yogurt with fresh fruit, granola, nuts, and honey. Greek yogurt has a healthy dose of protein to keep you full and energized and vitamin B-12 which has countless health benefits. My favorite brand is Stoneyfield Organic, as it contains no additives like sugar or thickeners. If I’m in a savory mood, I also love an omelet filled with sauteed mushrooms, spinach, and feta.
Review/Plan Your Week
As a student and blogger, alongside my job, keeping a planner is essential to making sure I get everything done during the week. Every morning, I make sure to check that day’s tasks and add any appointments, events, or assignments as need be. I was pinched for time when planning this week, but usually I used colored felt-tip pens and highlighters to categorize and jazz up my planner.
Go for a Morning Run
Exercising early in the morning is not an easy habit to make, but it has made the world of difference in how I feel. Sometime I do a quick ten-minute workout if I’m on a time crunch, but going for a morning run, even if only for half an hour, is energizing, refreshing, and a great time to reflect on the day ahead or to ponder and think in general. If you need a little motivation, buy cute workout clothes! TJMaxx has the best athleticwear section, full of sports bras, leggings, shorts, and tanks that are mostly under $15.
I hope ya’ll enjoyed today’s post! What are your tips for having a great morning?
